Dr Geoff Lavery
Dr Geoff Lavery, originally from Portadown, has been settled in Dublin for over twenty years, the majority of which he has spent living locally with his wife (from Castleknock) and now their three children. His family are increasingly involved in the local schools and sports clubs, developing roots and interests in their local community.
Geoff studied Medicine in University College Dublin, graduating in 2002. Geoff has trained in a number of prominent hospitals gaining valuable experience in Paediatrics, Accident & Emergency, and General Medicine; as well as achieving Diplomas for Psychiatry and Medicine of the Elderly as part of his vocational General Practice Scheme.
In addition to his studies Geoff has always been passionate about sport and in particular rugby, playing for UCD and Mater Hospital RFCs throughout his student days and well beyond, in addition to a Colours medal and numerous Cup Winners medals he was inducted to the historic Dublin Hospitals’ Cup Hall of Fame in 2013.
Geoff worked in General Practice in the New Forest, UK as well as in Ireland; he is dual qualified with Memberships of both Royal and Irish Colleges of General Practitioners. Since commencing practice Geoff has developed a special interest in Men’s Health issues. Geoff further enhanced his additional special interest skills with Certification in Travel Health Medicine and a Graduate Diploma in Dermatology. While in the New Forest, Geoff became actively involved in Medical Education. Since his return to Dublin, he has been a tutor for Medical students from both Trinity College and UCD. Geoff is currently actively involved in teaching RCSI Medical students at Connolly Hospital and future plans are to establish Oakwood Medical Clinic as a teaching practice.
Interested in the promotion of local General Practice issues, Geoff has served on the Connolly Hospital GP Liaison Committee, enhancing ties with the local hospital and consultants. He was also a member of the Paediatric OPD & Urgent Care Services Project Team (part of the New Children’s Hospital Group) which recently opened a paediatric satellite centre in Blanchardstown. Geoff is Treasurer for the ICGP affiliated Dublin West (Castleknock) Faculty of Continuing Medical Education (CME). Geoff has recently been appointed as a GP Trainer for the UCD GP training Scheme.
