Carmel is the newest member of the clinical team having joined Oakwood Medical in June 2015. She attended the Royal College of Surgeons (RCSI) Dublin on a partial scholarship and graduated from the college in 1997. She commenced her postgraduate training initially with a year of Paediatrics in Temple Street Children’s University Hospital and the Coombe Women’s Hospital which has been invaluable in her GP training. Thereafter, she embarked on general practice training, gaining experience in General and Respiratory medicine, Emergency medicine and Psychiatry. She completed her training in Edinburgh, Scotland where she became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2002. On her return to Ireland she worked in various different urban and rural practices in Dublin and surrounding areas before settling in Glasnevin for 5 years.  Due to the practice’s proximity to DCU, she gained a lot of experience in Student health, Travel medicine and Sexual health. She then moved to a more semi-rural practice in Dunshaughlin, County Meath where she worked for 4 years in a busy single-handed practice gaining experience in all aspects of general medicine, but in particular, in Chronic disease management and Medicine for the Elderly. Carmel‘s special interests are Paediatrics and Women’s health. She also has a keen interest in Dermatology. Carmel is married with 3 children.
